You know the order slip a waiter jots down on paper. e-Adisyon is the digital, recorded version of that slip, reported to the Revenue Administration (GİB).
The topic has recently landed on the agenda of restaurant and café owners - but who is in scope, when the switch must be made, and what will change are often unclear. In this article we try to clear up the confusion.
What is e-Adisyon?
e-Adisyon is the electronic version of the order document (adisyon) used in table-service food and beverage businesses taxed on a real-earnings basis.
The application is grounded in General Communiqué No. 509 of the Tax Procedure Law, published in 2021. It is created in accordance with the standards set by GİB and carries the same legal validity as a paper adisyon.
In short: it's not a random digital note, but an official electronic document recognized by the state.
The business types it covers: eateries, restaurants, cafés, patisseries, bars, and similar table-service food and beverage businesses.
Who is in scope?
This is the most confused point. e-Adisyon proceeds in line with e-Invoice (e-Fatura) liability.
- Food and beverage businesses that have moved to the e-Invoice or e-Archive Invoice application fall within the e-Adisyon scope
- GİB determines the scope by evaluating businesses' sales revenue amounts
- At least 3 months are granted for the transition, and the notification is announced through GİB's e-Document site (ebelge.gib.gov.tr)
Those left out of scope
- Taxpayers not covered by Communiqué No. 509
- Businesses providing self-service only
- Taxpayers taxed on a simplified basis
Businesses outside the scope can join the system voluntarily if they wish. However, the prerequisite for voluntary transition is being enrolled in the e-Invoice and e-Archive Invoice applications.
Where is the scope heading?
There is currently no general requirement for all food and beverage businesses. GİB is expected to expand the scope gradually - starting from high-revenue businesses and chains and moving toward mid-sized and small ones.
Important: Scope and timeline vary by the business's revenue, tax liability, and activity structure. You need to clarify your own situation with your financial advisor. This article is for general information only and does not constitute legal or financial advice.
Penalty risk
If documents that must be issued electronically are not issued in the proper format, a special irregularity penalty of 17,000 TL per document may be applied for 2026.
Because the figure is per document, the risk grows quickly in a business that issues dozens of order slips a day. Being caught unprepared while in scope is therefore not just an administrative matter but a financial one.
What do you need to switch to e-Adisyon?
The transition consists of four components:
1. e-Invoice / e-Archive infrastructure
A prerequisite. e-Adisyon is not a standalone application but a part of the e-document ecosystem.
2. GİB private integrator
An authorized integrator service is needed to transmit e-Adisyon data to GİB.
3. Compatible order (POS) software
Your software must produce data in the e-Adisyon format. Two technical points are critical here:
- Local-first recording: When the internet drops, the order must be saved on the device and transmitted once the connection returns. An internet outage in a restaurant can't halt service.
- Duplicate-free synchronization: When the connection returns, the same order must not be sent twice.
4. Financial archive
The obligation to retain documents for the legally required period.
Is it only a regulatory matter? No
In most businesses, e-Adisyon is seen as an "obligation." Yet leaving paper adisyon behind has an operational payoff too:
- Errors go down. Problems with handwritten orders, illegible handwriting, and lost slips disappear.
- Loss and leakage become visible. When every order is recorded, end-of-day discrepancies can be tracked.
- The end of day speeds up. If order slips are already digital, transfer to the register and accounting side isn't done by hand.
- Paper cost falls.
So regulatory compliance and operational improvement come out of the same investment.
A common mistake: the piecemeal solution
Businesses often treat e-Adisyon as a standalone module: an e-document solution is added alongside the existing register program.
The result is usually this:
- The QR menu is in one place
- The register is in another program
- e-Adisyon is in a third system
- Accounting is pulled together by hand at the end of the day
Each works on its own, but data doesn't flow between them. The same information is entered more than once, end-of-day figures come out late, and the risk of discrepancy grows.
The lasting solution is for the order → register → document → accounting chain to flow within a single system.
The poshaus approach
poshaus is a system brought together in a single panel for restaurants and cafés. QR menu, register and adisyon, kitchen display, inventory and recipes, and accounting work together:
- The customer orders from the table via the QR menu
- The order drops onto the kitchen display instantly
- The register and adisyon are processed in the same flow
- End-of-day inventory, cost, and accounting data are gathered without manual entry
Because the infrastructure can be self-hosted, the data stays under the business's control.
If you're planning an e-Adisyon transition, it's more efficient to treat it not as a standalone regulatory step, but as an opportunity to organize the entire operation.
Frequently asked questions
Are e-Adisyon and order software the same thing?
No. Order software is the software you manage orders in; e-Adisyon is the electronic document issued to the GİB standard. Your order software needs to produce e-Adisyon-compatible data.
I run self-service - am I in scope?
Businesses providing self-service only are kept out of scope. But if you also provide table service, the situation changes; consult your financial advisor.
If I haven't moved to e-Invoice, is e-Adisyon mandatory?
e-Adisyon proceeds in line with the e-document ecosystem. For a voluntary transition too, you first need to be enrolled in the e-Invoice and e-Archive Invoice applications.
How do I find out that I'm in scope?
GİB announces the scope and transition periods through ebelge.gib.gov.tr. Your financial advisor can also confirm based on your tax liability status.
What happens if the internet drops?
In a properly designed system, the order is saved locally and transmitted, duplicate-free, once the connection returns. When choosing software, be sure to ask about this feature.
Is there any point in switching before it's mandatory?
When GİB introduces a requirement, it grants at least 3 months; but completing software selection, setup, staff training, and testing within that window is a tight schedule. Businesses that switch early decide more comfortably.
Summary
- e-Adisyon is the electronic version of the paper adisyon to the GİB standard; its legal validity is the same
- Scope proceeds in line with e-Invoice liability and is expected to expand gradually
- At least 3 months are granted for the transition, with the announcement made through ebelge.gib.gov.tr
- For documents not issued in the proper format, there's a penalty risk of 17,000 TL per document for 2026
- Be sure to clarify your scope status with your financial advisor
- In a properly designed system, e-Adisyon delivers not just compliance but an operational gain
